Purbeck Arts Week what we go up to……..

At the Purbeck Art Weeks performance Meridian Brass and friends were fortunate enough to be joined in rehearsal by several artists and photographers. Some of the work they produced can be seen on our Facebook page. We were also joined by a film crew from the University of Southampton and we hope you will be able to enjoy some of that performance on our website soon.

Stephen McNeff has composed a new piece for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Brass and Meridian Brass to play at Corfe Castle later this month, entitled ‘Corfe Alarm Call’, the fanfare is part of the ‘Chalk Legends’ series of work the composer has written. Exploring the folk tales of the Jurassic coast, this movement of ‘Chalk Legends’ depicts the crows that were trained in the towers of Corfe Castle to fly out when danger approached.

Meridian Brass will be performing at the South Bank Centre band stand this month as part of the Festival of Britain. We will be playing a set of light summer music to set the mood for the start of the festival.

Rehearsal s with dancers and singers start in earnest this month for our

Purbeck Art Weeks performances. The group are enjoying the new experience of working with dancers Elly Braund and James Pett under the directorship of Kerry Nicholls. The mix of brass, dance and voices is unusual but extremely exciting.
